Going to the zoo!

On Labor Day Monday me and Mark decided to get up early and to go to the zoo!  We decided that we were going to get up early and try to get to the zoo as soon as it opened.  So.... bright and early we got up and traveled up to the Hogle Zoo in SLC, Utah.  When we got there I was actually really surprised because there were so many people who had the same idea as us.  :-)  The zoo already had a good number of people there but we hopped in line and got our tickets and started our adventure.  (PS> The weather was absolutely perfect it was just a tad bit chilly first thing in the morning with clear skies and it gradually got warmer as the day went on.) 

First thing we went and saw the elephant show!  We got to meet baby Zuri and her mom and learn cool things about elephants and see them do fun tricks.  We meandered our way through the zoo and saw the monkeys and apes, the big cats (we got a close view of the tigers), the reptiles, rodents, giraffes, rhinos, and so much more!  We really did have a very enjoyable day and just had fun being outside in the sun and seeing animals that you generally only see on TV. 

The zoo was pretty cool because in addition to being a place to see various interesting animals it was also supposed to be rather educational.  There were places to learn more about the various animals, to weigh yourself (and your friends) and see how that compares to the weight of different animals or even what an animal might eat, to see how your height and build compare to a gorilla (like how Mark is comparing himself in the picture), and we were able to get up close and personal with some fruit bats.  It really was a fun time and we really enjoyed it!  To be honest, the zoo is probably more fun when you have little kids there- but hey, we're still young right?
